Welcome to Lowell Makes! We’re glad you’re here! This page contains everything you need to know to get started as a new member!

New Member Onboarding

Make sure you do each of the things on this list to get started.

  1. **Join Lowell Makes** Go to the member portal, create a Lowell Makes account, and choose a membership plan. You can also come to Open House (Wednesday from 6-8pm) to get help signing up. Joining Lowell Makes give you access to all the resources we have available.
  2. **Attend orientation and pick up a key fob** All new members must attend a REQUIRED New Member Orientation. These Orientations are offered every Wednesday starting at 6:30 during our Open House. They take 20-30 minutes and will cover everything you need to know before you become a full member. Click the link above to pre-register. (The form says Tour Request, but it’s the same form to sign up for all Open House activities.)
  3. Review the Orientation and Onboarding packet This is the primary New Member document. We will go over it with you during your Orientation, but if you want to get a head start, you can check it out ahead of time.
  4. **Join Basecamp** Basecamp is our message board and the main way our community communicates outside of in-person meetings. You must be invited to join the Lowell Makes Basecamp by a current member. This can be done during your Orientation, or you can request an invite by emailing us at [email protected]. Click the link above to learn more.
  5. **Get Checked Out in one shop, or many!** Lowell Makes is a collection of several distinct work areas called “shops.”  Each shop can have its own rules or safety check-out processes.  You must be trained, or tested on your skills, before you can use the equipment at Lowell Makes. Each shop has specific requirements to get checked out. Pick a shop, ask or read about the requirements, then set up a time to get Checked Out. Information on checkouts is available on the individual shop pages on this site.
  6. **Attend a Member’s meeting!** Our monthly member’s meetings are a great way to meet your fellow members and get up to speed on everything happening at Lowell Makes! While it’s not required to attend, we do encourage everyone to join us each month on the First Tuesday of the month from 7-8pm. Click the link above or keep reading to learn more!
  7. Check out our Member Portal It is both the front end system that you will use to manage your membership and the backend system that Lowell Makes uses to manage our members. When you sign up for Lowell Makes, the user name and password you create are a login for the portal. Through the Member Portal, you can manage your membership options, billing and account info. You can also sign up for classes, meetups and other events.
  8. Start using the space! Once you’ve completed the steps above you are free to begin using the Lowell Makes. Enjoy!
