• Each laser cutter in the shop requires a separate training/checkout.
• Checkout is typically done the same day as the training for convenience.
• Training on the small Full Spectrum and Glowforge laser cutters is provided for free.
  • These are generally arranged as an informal 1:1 session with an approved shop trainer.
  • Contact an approved shop trainer on Basecamp or send an email to [email protected] to arrange a time for the training.
  • Once a member passes the checkout their name will be added to an approved users list for that particular machine and they will be added to the Laser Crew Basecamp group (assuming they aren’t already).

<aside> 💡 Training for the BFL, our Big Frikken Laser, is offered through a formal, paid course. You can find scheduled classes and purchase tickets on our member portal.

• It is required that a member be checked out on the Full Spectrum or Glowforge and have experience running the laser cutter independently before enrolling in the BFL class. If the member has extensive laser cutting experience outside of Lowell Makes, this requirement may be waved at the discretion of the instructor. Such arrangement must be discussed with the instructor prior to registering for the class.
• Interested members must register for the course on our member portal in order to secure their spot.
• Class size is limited to a maximum of 6 people.
• Courses are typically held at least once a month but may be offered two or three times depending on demand.
